Behind the Track | Almost Not Here, Transmission 03
Sometimes the distance between you and the world becomes difficult to explain.
Everything is still there.
The people. The familiar places. The life you recognize.
But somehow, they seem further away than before.
And the space between you and everything else continues to grow.
For me, that feeling eventually reached beyond everyday life. Even in my dreams, I began to experience the strange sensation that nothing truly belonged to me anymore.
The world was still there.
I just couldn't seem to reach it.
Distant Interior is a dark ambient soundscape about that growing emotional distance. About losing your sense of connection, struggling to find something familiar within yourself, and discovering that even in the deepest isolation, small moments of hope can still appear.
It is the third transmission in Almost Not Here, a musical journey through disconnection, uncertainty, and the quiet search for something that still feels real.

When Everything Begins to Drift Away
There was a time when I felt as though everything around me was gradually moving further away.
Not physically.
It was something I experienced emotionally.
Things that once felt familiar no longer seemed to belong to me. The connection I had with my surroundings, my experiences, and even my dreams became increasingly difficult to recognize.
And the distance kept growing.
What made this particularly difficult was the feeling that I had no control over it.
It was as though the things I wanted to hold on to had moved beyond my reach.
I could still see them.
I could still remember them.
But they no longer felt accessible.
That growing separation created an overwhelming sense of infinity. As though the space between myself and everything I recognized had no ending.
And somewhere within that endless distance, I began to feel hopeless.
This is where Distant Interior began.
Not as an attempt to explain what was happening.
But as a way of giving that feeling somewhere to exist.
The Interior Was My Own Inner World
The title Distant Interior carries a very personal meaning.
At first, it might suggest an empty room or an unfamiliar building. A place somewhere far away, perhaps forgotten or abandoned.
Those images certainly belong to the visual world of Wartonno Sound.
But the interior in this track is something different.
It is my own inner world.
Although I experienced a sense of distance in everyday life, its greatest impact seemed to happen within me.
My thoughts.
My emotions.
My memories.
Even the things I encountered in dreams.
The places where I might normally expect to feel closest to myself began to feel strangely remote.
That was the most unsettling part.
Because when the distance appears in the outside world, you can sometimes move closer.
You can return to a familiar place.
You can reach out to someone.
But what happens when the distance is inside you?
Where do you go when the place you are trying to reach is yourself?
I think that question became the emotional centre of Distant Interior.

Turning Thoughts Into Sound
When I created the musical atmosphere for Distant Interior, the sounds became a way to express what I was experiencing.
The drones and textures represent my thoughts and feelings.
They are the continuous presence beneath everything else.
Sometimes distant.
Sometimes overwhelming.
Sometimes difficult to separate from one another.
They reflect that emotional space where thoughts seem to stretch endlessly, without offering a clear direction.
But there is another element in the music.
Small, piano-like notes appear within the atmosphere.
For me, those notes represent the moments when something begins to develop within my thoughts.
A feeling.
An emotion.
A possibility.
Perhaps even a little hope.
They are not there simply to create a melody.
They represent moments when I begin to find something I can hold on to again.
A small sense of control.
A connection.
Something that feels familiar.
I find that contrast important.
The drones and textures continue to create a vast, uncertain space.
But the notes remind me that something can still emerge from within it.
Even when the distance seems endless.
Even when hope feels unreachable.
There may still be something moving beneath the surface.
Alone in a Familiar Room
The visual world of Distant Interior changes whenever I listen to it.
There is no single landscape or fixed image.
But one place returns more often than others.
A bedroom.
A familiar room.
And the feeling of being completely alone.
As though nobody else is nearby.
I find something unsettling about that image.
A bedroom is usually one of the most personal places we have.
It is where the outside world becomes quieter.
Where we sleep, dream, remember, and spend time with our thoughts.
And yet, even a familiar bedroom can begin to feel distant when something inside us has changed.
The walls remain the same.
The objects are still where we left them.
Nothing appears to have moved.
But the feeling of belonging is no longer as certain as it once was.
That is the kind of liminal space I wanted to explore.
Not necessarily an abandoned building or an impossible corridor.
Sometimes the most unfamiliar place is the room we know best.
Especially when we no longer feel entirely connected to ourselves.
A Third Transmission from Almost Not Here
Distant Interior is part of a larger story.
Almost Not Here explores the experience of becoming disconnected from the familiar world, from the people around us, and from our own sense of identity.
The first transmission, Nothing Feels Real Anymore, introduces that uncertainty.
The second, Fading Signal, continues the movement toward emotional distance.
With Distant Interior, the journey moves inward.
But there is something important about this third transmission.
It does not remain entirely without hope.
When I began the musical piece, hope was not what I felt.
The emotional distance seemed too large.
The sense of losing control and being unable to reach anything familiar was much stronger.
But as the music developed, something slowly began to change.
Small moments appeared.
Little sparks of hope.
They did not suddenly remove the darkness or make everything feel familiar again.
And I did not want them to.
Because finding hope does not always mean that everything has been resolved.
Sometimes it begins with something much smaller.
A thought that feels different.
An emotion that returns.
A moment when something seems possible again.
That gradual change became an important part of the composition.
And it is also what connects Distant Interior to the larger meaning of Almost Not Here.
The series may explore disconnection, but hope remains part of its journey.
Even when it is difficult to find.

When to Listen to Distant Interior
I hope Distant Interior offers a place where listeners can relax for a while.
A place where nothing needs to be solved immediately.
Where the music can exist alongside their thoughts rather than compete with them.
Its slow-moving dark ambient atmosphere may be suitable for:
- Late-night reflection: When the world becomes quiet and your thoughts seem to grow louder.
- Reading and writing: When you want atmospheric music that leaves space for your own imagination.
- Moments of solitude: When you want to spend time alone without filling every moment with noise.
- Creative exploration: When you want sound to accompany memories, dreams, or unfamiliar imaginary places.
- A quiet pause: When you need a little distance from the demands of everyday life.
You do not need to understand every sound.
You do not need to feel what I felt when I created the track.
There is no correct interpretation.
Perhaps the music will remind you of something entirely different.
Perhaps you will recognize a small part of your own experience.
Or perhaps it will simply give you a few quiet minutes to listen.
All of those possibilities are enough.
Finding the Smallest Spark of Hope
There is something I hope listeners will discover in Distant Interior.
Not a solution.
Not a promise that everything will suddenly become better.
But the possibility that even when life feels distant or overwhelming, small moments of hope can still exist.
They may be difficult to recognize.
They may appear briefly and disappear again.
But that does not make them meaningless.
I hope you can hear those moments within the music.
And perhaps, in your own way, begin to recognize them in your life as well.
A sense of direction.
A feeling that something still belongs to you.
A small connection with the person you are, or the person you are trying to become.
For me, Distant Interior began with a feeling of endless distance and hopelessness.
But it did not have to end there.
The drones remain.
The space is still vast.
The uncertainty has not entirely disappeared.
Yet somewhere within it, a few notes begin to emerge.
And for a moment, something feels a little closer.
Perhaps that is where hope begins.
Not when everything finally makes sense.
But when something inside you starts to feel reachable again.
