The first tape took us underground.

Apartment Above the Fog is a short beatless dark ambient track designed as an environmental miniature rather than a conventional song.
There are no drums.

The idea is not simply to write music about an impossible apartment.

The apartment appears ordinary at first.

A quiet interior after dark.

The city beneath the building has disappeared beneath fog.

There is only the mist.
Then, during the night, a low mechanical frequency begins to rise from somewhere beneath the clouds.
Its source cannot be identified.
That unexplained frequency became the central idea behind the track.
I did not want something dramatic to happen.
There is no monster in the fog.
No sudden impact.
No voice explaining what happened.
The uncertainty is enough.

One of the rules I set for The Lost Tapes is that every recording is beatless.
That restriction changes how the music develops.
Without percussion, there is nowhere for the track to hide.
Movement has to come from:
- texture
- harmony
- frequency
- space
- small changes in the environment
That suits these imaginary locations.
A drum pattern would immediately remind you that you are listening to a produced track.
Removing the beat allows the environment to become the rhythm instead.
The hum of a room can pulse.
Rain can create movement.
A distant electrical frequency can become a motif.
The location itself becomes part of the composition.
Why Only Two Minutes?
Every Lost Tape lasts approximately two minutes.
That is intentional too.
These are not long-form ambient journeys.
They are fragments.
Small windows into larger places.
Two minutes is long enough to establish an environment, introduce an anomaly, and let the listener begin imagining what surrounds it.
But it ends before everything becomes familiar.
I like that.
You arrive.
You notice something strange.
Then the recording stops.

Tape 001 was:
An underground station where rain continued to fall despite there being no opening above the platform.
Tape 002 changes the scale completely.
Instead of underground architecture, we move into a private room suspended above an unseen city.
The connection between the two recordings is not a shared fictional map.
These places do not currently belong to Meridian City or another established universe.
They may not belong together at all.
What connects them is the feeling.
Familiar places.
One impossible detail.
A recording that raises more questions than it answers.
That is the language of The Lost Tapes.
Dark Ambient Music Without Horror
I am interested in darkness without always turning it into fear.
That distinction matters.
Apartment Above the Fog is mysterious, but I would not describe it as traditional horror music.
The apartment is quiet.
The fog is beautiful.
The room might even feel comforting for a while.
The unease comes from what is missing.
A city should exist beneath that window.
At night, lights should appear.
Somewhere, there should be evidence of other people.
Instead there is almost nothing.
This is where dark ambient and liminal spaces intersect for me.
The strange thing does not need to attack you.
Sometimes it only needs to remain unexplained.
What Is The Lost Tapes?
The Lost Tapes is an ongoing Wartonno Sound project beginning with:

The first volume will contain eight recordings.
Each track follows the same fundamental rules:
- approximately two minutes
- completely beatless
- a finished musical piece
- one distinctive location
- one unexplained anomaly
- no narration
